WYSE 50 Terminal Emulation Instructions

Our 24 bit multi-turn encoder is completely programmable using a "dumb" terminal. We have available for download a WYSE 50 terminal emulator. It is a small file and it runs under DOS and Win95 and is foolproof (let us know if you have problems so we can make comments on this instruction page).

Print out these instruction or come back to this page after you have downloaded the file.

You will need to unzip the WYSE50.ZIP file. We have available a public domain unzipper (UNZ532X3.EXE) that you may download if needed. It is a .EXE file and upon running the application it will supply all the documentation necessary to unzip the WYSE50.ZIP file.

After unzipping the file we recommend you delete the W.INI file. The WYSE50 documentation states that if the W.INI is not found it will default to settings that are 100% compatible with the CP-850-24MT encoder. Namely 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, and no parity (8N1). We have verified that this is true.

Next, a cable needs to be fabricated to connect the encoder to the PC. If your PC uses a 9 pin connector for COM1 then the following will help. If your PC uses something other than a 9 pin connector then you are on your own (until we figure it out ourselves).

9 pin connector wiring:

1. not used
2. connect to RS232 OUT from the encoder
3. connect to RS232 IN from the encoder
4. jumper to pin 6
5. encoder GROUND
6. jumper to pin 4
7. jumper to pin 8
8. jumper to pin 7
9. not used

It is important that the DIRECTION input at the encoder is tied to GROUND or the supply voltage. Also, dont forget to tie the RESET signal to the supply voltage to put the encoder into PROGRAMMING MODE.

Good Luck!
